Application for Graduate Study

Applications must be received by January 15 for the fall semester.  All applications from international applicants must be received by December 15 for fall admission. 

Applications will be processed by the Graduate Committee of the Department of African American Studies once the following materials have been received.

• The completed graduate application

• Three completed graduate study reference reports

• A statement of your personal goals

• A sample of your writing:  a research paper / article

• Two copies of an official transcript from each college attended

• TOEFL / GRE scores

• A non-refundable application fee of $40.00

Once all materials are submitted your application will be considered complete.  Only completed applications are forwarded to the Graduate Committee for review.

ONLINE APPLICATION

Temple University and The Department of African American Studies have all application materials for graduate study fully accessible via the internet. You can now apply for graduate study at DAAS without needing to receive anything through the mail! To utilize this time-saving technology, follow these directions:

• Download the DAAS Application packet — This packet contains the Departmental Description, Faculty List, and External Teaching Assistant Application, as well as other helpful instructions. (Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader)

U.S. MAIL

• Please complete the form to request the DAAS Application packet.  Once you have completed the form, press the submit button to send your request to the Department of African American Studies.    Please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery.

Complete Online

• Complete the Graduate School's Online Application — This Application contains a Graduate Application Form, a Disabled Student Service Form, a Graduate Study Academic Record Report Form, and a Graduate Study Reference Report Form. The Graduate School allows you to choose from several types of application methods so that you can select the method that suits your type of computer use.
  

Submit Application Fee

• SUBMIT YOUR $40.00 APPLICATION FEE! — Remember to submit your $40 application fee, or your application will not be processed. You may mail a check to the AAS Graduate Secretary. Please make your check payable to Temple University, include your name and social security number on your check.
