1. Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 1:00 pm.
2. President’s Report- Turner:
President Turner remarked that today’s guest speakers, Tim O’Rourke, Vice President, CIO and Barbara Dolhansky, Associate Vice President, Computer Services would like to speak at a Representative Senate meeting, tentatively, the December meeting.
Bruce Rader, Fox School, has requested that an ad hoc committee be formed for NTT’s. It was suggested that he be told to first present the issue to the Union. It is possible, that we may be able to have a committee for the status of the whole faculty. Turner suggested that we wait until after the new contract is negotiated.
3. Guests:
Tim O’Rourke, Vice President, CIO and Barbara Dolhansky, Associate Vice President, Computer Services gave a presentation on the new SunGard Banner ERP System which will replace the three basic systems that we have now: Human Resources, Financial Management System, and ISIS. This system is already in use at other universities. TU Portal will be the gateway to the system.
Within the next few months, the student email system will be transferred to Google (free for Temple and no advertisements for students). The email system for Temple employees will be transferred to Exchange. Gmail is also an option for faculty (there is some concern about privacy). There will be no effect on Blackboard and no mid semester problems.
The system will be more efficient, there will be greater access to data, and there will be regular updates. Teams from SunGard are working on how to configure the system and how to train it. The project will not be completed until 2010-11. The system includes the Health Science Center but not the hospital.
Town Meetings for faculty will be held so that faculty will have information on the how and why of the new system.
4. Vice President’s Report - LaFollette:
Through the great work of Cheryl Mack and Sheri Stahler, the ballot for the election has been designed. (It has taken 5 weeks.) It should be easier next time. An email announcement will be sent out when it is time to vote.
5. Unfinished Business:
None
6. New Business: The following topics were discussed
A question was raised about whether the President’s informal dinner meetings with faculty will continue
LaFollette mentioned that at many universities; employees can take out retirement money before actual retirement. Temple does not have this policy. LaFollette was asked to find out the process at Temple.
Tony Wagner will be at a future meeting
Jackson wanted to know who was on the Athletics Committee. Dave Baron is to be replaced on the committee.
7. Adjournment:
The meeting was adjourned at 3:10 pm.
