She has released a proposal of a definition of service to the faculty and will release the Provost’s response to it.

3. Vice President Report:

a) Lois is reconvening the ‘Status of Women Committee ’.

b) Lois is convening a new committee the ‘ Faculty of Color Committee ’.

4. Guest:

Our guest was Dick Englert, Deputy Provost who was invited to respond to questions that we had about the University Workload Committee.

We had many questions. In particular, we were interested in the rationale of having no faculty members on the committee, how faculty members are to be rewarded for service, how uniform standards can be held across colleges, and what metrics are used in decision making.

Dick’s repeated response was that workload is a purely administrative decision and that the administration deals only with the TAUP on all issues that are related to it.

After Dick’s departure, a spirited discussion ensued.

Agenda  for the November 17 Representative Senate meeting was proposed.

Respectfully submitted,

Bonnie Averbach (FSBM)
