Approval of Minutes

The minutes of the previous meeting were approved

Core equivalents for Science and Math GenEd Pilots:

Karen Turner asked for clarification of Science and Mathematics requirements for the pilot Gened courses.  At the September 25, 2006 meeting, the minutes state that the EPPC passed a motion that includes the following:

The table also gave the core equivalent for each pilot course: Science B for each Science and Technology course, Quantitative B for each quantitative literacy course.  As a corollary, and A-level core course in these areas would be considered to be a prerequisite for the Natural Science and Technology and Quantitative Literacy pilots.

The question raised by Karen pertained to transfer students.  The critical issue is to enable pilots for Gened to fulfill core requirements.  Michelle stated that all students have to take a Science A and Science B course, and a transfer student will need both.  A 45+ student without a science course will need a Science A course.  There is no Gened document that outlines these requirements.

Karen asked that the committee table the question of core equivalents for Science GenEd pilot courses.

Core-to-Core Agreement Renewals

Michelle introduced Patty Vorndran, Coordinator for Transfer  Programs.  Michelle and Patty introduced the committee to the process of reviewing agreements, a task that we agreed to do prior to the end of the current semester.   We will be reviewing all of our core-to-core agreements in order to renew them for our new General Education program.  Since many new programs have been added without any agreement regarding articulation requirements, we will make sure to specify which degrees have been reviewed and approved.

We agreed that if “Yes” was checked for all evaluation criteria, the EPPC would approve the agreement.

Delaware County Community College

  • For Communication Arts: We will require one math and one science
  • For Science for Health Professions:  They require 3 credits of Humanities, 3 credits of Social Sciences, and 3 credits of Social Science/Business.  We require 15 credits of humanities/social sciences.  We need to know if the degree is approved by an accrediting body.

Burlington County College: All approved

Bucks County Community College:

Under the current agreement, any Associates of Arts degree qualifies for core-to-core.  BCCC has transfer and career programs, all of which are Associate of Arts programs; therefore, they are all included in the current core-to-core agreement..  We reviewed transfer programs only.  The following require attention:

  • Business Administration:  We need to think further about use of CIS courses as science courses.  This program lacks a science requirement.
  • Communications General:  Must have both Math and Science
  • Communications Performance:  Must have both Math and Science
  • Fine Arts:  Must have both Math and Science
  • Graphic Design:  Must have both Math and Science
  • Health/Physical Education:  Must have both Math and Science
  • Individual Transfer Studies:  Must have both Math and Science
  • Journalism:  Must have both Math and Science
  • Liberal Arts: American Studies:  Must have both Math and Science
  • Liberal Arts:  Humanities:  Must have both Math and Science
  • Liberal Arts: Social Science Emphasis:  Must have both Math and Science
