Fall 2006
EPPC met every two weeks this semester. The topics that took most of our time were:
- The issue of the number of free electives. We discussed this topic over several meetings. Our recommendation is that all programs should be allowed to establish requirements according to national or state benchmarks by accreditation bodies or other nationally or state ranked programs in terms of requirements for the major with no minimum number of free electives.
- The treatment if transfer students under GenEd. A subcommittee with members from EPPC, GEEC, and administration has been meeting every other week to draw up a plan for the treatment of transfer students under the new General Education requirements. After looking at several options and analyzing what their effects would have been on some sample transfer students a proposal was adopted by the subcommittee. The proposal is currently being reviewed by EPPC and GEEC.
Other issues which we have considered include the report of the Writing Committee on Writing Intensive Courses, the issue of the number of times a student can repeat a course, and various housekeeping type issues.
One of our concerns for next semester is examining the role of EPPC in light of the current effort to update the Faculty Handbook.
