Applying for an I-20 |
|
Thank you for your interest in Temple University! As an prospective international student, you may need to apply for a student visa. The Office of International Services (OIS) at Temple University can help you with that process. First, you will need to apply for and be granted admission to Temple University. You should also know that the OIS is not involved at all in the admissions process. This means that we cannot clarify whether you have been admitted or if the admissions office has received your admission documents. You will need to contact them directly with any questions that have to do with admissions, include deadlines, admissions requirements, etc. You do not have to wait until you have been admitted. It is actually recommended that you apply for the Certificate of Eligibility (I-20 or DS-2019) before you are admitted. This enables the OIS to review your financial documentation and other materials and contact you should the need arise. You will need the following to apply for a Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20 or DS-2019): · Certificate of Eligibility Application. This can be found at http://www.temple.edu/ois/pdfs/I20APP.pdf · Financial Documentation. This can either be in the form of the most recent bank statement or a letter from the bank, on bank letterhead, signed by a bank official, with a specific amount. This must be dated within six months. The specific amount needed on this document depends on the school you have applied to and the academic level in which you will be enrolled (Undergraduate/Graduate). You can visit http://www.temple.edu/ois/home/prospective/feesforweb2.htm for the estimated fees for the upcoming academic year. When you visit this website, there will be tabs on the bottom of the screen and arrows on the bottom left hand side. Each tab represents the different schools offered at Temple University. This is in alphabetical order, if you do not see your school, then you will need to use the arrows (located in the bottom left of the screen) to view your school. The page will be split by level or degree, the total amount is the minimum amount of money that you will need to show proof of on the financial documentation. If you have a sponsor, your sponsor will need to complete the affidavit of support found in the I-20 application. · SEVIS release date. This is for students that are currently studying in the U.S. Once you receive your acceptance letter, bring the letter and our transfer recommendation form (http://www.temple.edu/ois/pdfs/transferform.pdf) to the international advisor (guidance counselor if you are a high school student) at your current school. You and your advisor will need to complete the form and return to us (via fax, e-mail, or mail) along with the I-20 application and financial documentation. Please send all documents related to the I-20 to the Office of International Services and not admissions. Once these documents have been approved and you have been accepted to Temple University, we will issue your document within five business days. Your application for admission and for the I-20 can be check on line. Please see http://www.temple.edu/ois/home/prospective/checkstatus.htm for details.
