Mission of Committee on Instruction
To propose a new undergraduate course, revise an existing undergraduate course, or reinstate an undergraduate course, departments must:
A) Obtain approval from the department's undergraduate curriculum committee
B) Obtain approval from the department chair
C) Submit to the Committee on Instruction (one hard copy) all forms as listed above, forms from Vice Provost's office only in hard copy, as follows:
Hard copy to COI at 1238 Anderson (all forms) Electronic copy (all forms except Vice Provost forms) to coi@temple.edu
D) The Committee on Instruction, upon approval of course proposal, revision or reinstatement, will forward all relevant paperwork to the Writing Center, Honors Program and the office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs
In order to assure COI review at a particular COI meeting, departments and programs must submit a hard copy as per the instructions above no later than 2 weeks prior to the given COI meeting. COI cannot assure review of materials received with less than 2 weeks notice.

Use this checklist to make sure you have all the documentation you need for your course proposal, revision or reinstatement or for your program changes.
Departments and programs may wish to consider curricular change in the context of the forthcoming course renumbering: see coi/course renumber/

College of Liberal Arts departments and programs that wish to propose new undergraduate courses, revise existing undergraduate courses, or reinstate undergraduate courses that have been deleted from the University's course inventory must use the forms listed here:

4) If course is or will be cross-listed, use the cross-listing form
5) Additional paperwork is required for certification for W (writing intensive)
6) Additional documentation is required for honors courses at the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies site.
7) Additional form is required for courses proposed as writing intensive classes (W). Do not fill in the very top part of the first page of the form as that is only completed when the course is first approved by COI. Complete the rest of the form and submit it together with the rest of the documentation for the course proposal to COI. COI will forward the relevant materials to the Writing Committee. 8) To propose a new program (major or minor) or to revise an existing program (major, minor or certificate), you must use forms from the provost's office as follows:
To establish new majors, minors, and other academic programs: Form OP-1, OP-2 and OP-S (Signature Sheet)
To revise majors, minors and other academic programs: Form OP-3 and OP-S (signature sheet)
To revise certificates: Form OP-5 and OP-S (signature Sheet)

10) To propose a change in the major in order to comply with the new W requirements, you may be able to use the streamlined process if your change does not add credit hours to the major. Click here to access the form to see if you can use the streamlined process. If your change in the major does not meet the streamlined change requirements, you will have to follow the process outlined in point 8 above
