Molefi Kete Asante, professor of African American studies, received an honorary doctorate degree at Pepperdine University’s commencement ceremony on May 17. Asante was cited for his work in founding the first Ph.D. program in African American studies and for his work on race and culture in American society.
Rodger Barnette, professor and chair of anesthesiology at the School of Medicine, was inducted into the College of Physicians of Philadelphia on May 22.
David Baron, professor of psychiatry and behavioral science at the School of Medicine, was named chair of psychiatric programming at the American Psychiatric Association’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C., held May 3–8.
Ivan Lugo, associate dean of community health and institutional relations at the Kornberg School of Dentistry, was appointed to the board of visitors of the Samuel D. Harris National Museum of Dentistry.
Lalitha Naveen, professor of finance at the Fox School of Business, won the Best Paper Award for her paper “Co-opted boards: Costs, Benefits, Causes, and Consequences” at the Conference on Corporate Governance and Fraud Prevention, held at George Mason University on May 10.
Ronald Rubin, professor of medicine at the School of Medicine, was the course director for the American College of Physicians’ maintenance of certification exam preparation course, which was offered at the 2008 American College of Physicians meeting in May. Rubin was also a member of the hematology/oncology faculty for the course, and Darilyn Moyer, professor of medicine at the School of Medicine, was a member of the infectious diseases faculty. |
